COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council Monday night approved the acquisition of new emergency vehicles for the 2026/2027 fiscal year for the police and fire departments, selecting LaFontaine CDJR-Lansing to supply three 2027 Dodge Durango Pursuit Rated AWD vehicles.
Based on recommendations from Public Safety Director Joseph Scheid and Fire Chief Dave Schmaltz, the city will acquire two patrol units for $87,150 and a fire staff car for $42,005, following a competitive bidding process.
Sheid was asked what happens to the fleet vehicles once they are replaced
Fire Chief Schmaltz says his department replaces staff vehicles every ten years, and they were going with the same vehicle as police only a slightly cheaper version
The council also approved the fire departments purchase of a new SCBA compressor for their cascade system, that is what is used to fill air tanks firefighters use on breath in toxic and smoke filled calls
All of last nights purchase approvals were included in the budget.
