COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As the process of setting a 2027 Branch County budget is set to begin with a series of meetings next month, County Administrator Frank Walsh says despite adding staffing and raising salaries for dispatchers and sheriff’s deputies this year the county is in position to finish 2026 with a budget surplus that will allow them to make some much needed facility upgrades.
Walsh says it was a combination of circumstances that allowed for the revenue increase
Walsh says over two dozen meetings are scheduled with department leaders and elected officials on the 2027 budget during the first two weeks of August.
Walsh hopes to have the entire budget process wrapped up by the first meeting in November.

It’s too bad that this surplus couldn’t be used for the mental health services that BC is losing. I’ve received both inpatient and outpatient care at these facilities, and I can’t imagine how hard it’s going to be for people to lose their lifelines. 🥺
