COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan’s total number of confirmed cyclosporiasis cases has reached 10,773 following the release of new daily data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) online dashboard.
The rapidly expanding foodborne outbreak, which has made Michigan the hardest-hit state in the nation, stems from a parasitic infection linked to contaminated fresh produce like iceberg lettuce.
As health officials struggle to fully contain the spread, the state’s latest data indicates that at least 193 individuals have required hospitalization due to severe gastrointestinal complications.
The surge in cases is increasingly impacting communities across southern Michigan, as reflected in the regional dashboard numbers. Calhoun County remains a major localized hot spot, with confirmed cases climbing significantly to 297.
In Hillsdale County, health officials have documented 57 infections, while St. Joseph County has reached 34 confirmed cases. Meanwhile, Branch County saw its very first case increase of the week, ticked up slightly to a total of 15 confirmed cases.
Local health agencies continue to urge anyone experiencing persistent watery diarrhea and fatigue to contact their healthcare provider and cooperate with case investigators to help isolate additional sources of contamination.
