COLDWATER, MI — Funding intended for Insight Hospital & Medical Center Coldwater is facing delays in Washington.
A $3 million legislatively-directed spending item, sought to support the facility, remains stalled amid gridlock in the US Senate.
Congressman Tim Walberg requested the earmark to fund infrastructure overhauls and expand the facility’s localized medical capabilities. However, ongoing deadlocks in the senate have put a temporary hold on the capital injection.
The funding impasse has impacted operations, forcing the hospital to temporarily suspend its inpatient behavioral health services to undergo an essential modernization evaluation.
The $3 million layout is designed to renovate the psychiatric unit by adding 16 private, ligature-resistant safety rooms and a high-acuity secure hold space to handle active mental health crises.
Without the federal dollars, local patients requiring emergency psychiatric placements must now be redirected to surrounding regional facilities, placing severe operational and financial strains on the Branch County Probate Court and local emergency care services
