LANSING, MI (WTVB) – State Rep. Jennifer Wortz (R-Quincy) testified this week before the House Committee on Insurance in support of a bipartisan legislative package aimed at providing Michigan drivers with more affordable auto insurance options.
The proposed legislation aligns Michigan’s insurance requirements more closely with other states by lowering required bodily injury liability coverage to $25,000/$50,000, down from the current $50,000/$100,000 minimum. Additionally, the package would allow insurers to offer lower levels of Personal Injury Protection (PIP) statewide—including extending the $50,000 PIP option to all drivers—and would eliminate the requirement for motorists to manually reselect lower coverage limits at every policy renewal.
Wortz says she has a number of family and friends move to neighboring states partly due to the high cost of auto insurance
According to Wortz, the changes would deliver more affordable options while ensuring that drivers maintain access to necessary protections based on their individual circumstances.
