COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There maybe a switch where Branch County autopsies are performed. The Branch County Board of Commissioners has been asked to renew an autopsy contract with Lucas County, Ohio for 2018, but concerns have been raised about increased costs and other charges.
Branch County Medical Examiner Doctor Troy Davis told commissioners during last Friday’s work session that prices charged by Lucas County have risen over the last several years.
Lucas County is increasing their charge for 2018 to $1,450 per autopsy. County Commissioner Don Vrablic questioned how the county was getting billed by Lucas County, and felt the county may get more bang for its buck with Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.
Vrablic later motioned that the Lucas County contract not be renewed when it’s brought forward to this Friday’s regular meeting, and that the county have their autopsies performed by Spectrum Health without a contract.
