COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Four Coldwater Cardinals have earned Interstate 8 girls basketball All Conference honors. Tyler Scheid and Carlee Crabtree were named to the first team while Malorie Rzepka and Jamie Wellet earned honorable mention honors. The four Coldwater players were among the top 12 vote getters in the balloting by the conference coaches.
Sydney Shafer of Jackson Northwest was named the Interstate 8’s Most Valuable Player as she was the top vote getter. Schied was second in the balloting as she averaged 12.1 points and 9.5 rebounds this season. She also led the Cardinals with 45 defensive deflections and 25 blocks.
Crabtree earned First Team honors for the second straight as she led the Cardinals in scoring average 12.8 points per game. She also dished out 26 assists.
Rzepka narrowly missed being named to the First Team for the third straight year. She averaged 8.9 points and five rebounds a game while leading the Cardinals in conference games with 57 assists and 38 steals. Rzepka tied a school record with 33 points in a victory over Kalamazoo Central.
Wellet’s defensive play was one of the reasons Coldwater held conference opponents to 35.5 points per game.
