GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WTVB) – Interstate 8 champion Jackson Northwest will be playing for a girls basketball state championship later this afternoon. The Mounties posted a 56-47 win against cross-county rival Michigan Center in an MHSAA Class B Semifinal at Calvin College’s Van Noord Arena. Sydney Shafer had a game-high 21 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, and 6 steals, Jozie Bontrtager also posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards, and Ella Bontrager added 11 as the Mounties improved to 25-1. The Cardinals of Michigan Center, who ended their season at 23-3, were led by Masyn Shannon’s 14 points and 7 rebounds. Northwest will face defending Class B champion Detroit Country Day tonight at 6:15pm. Country Day advanced by beating Kingsley 70-54.
East Lansing, the team that eliminated Coldwater last week in the Class A Regional Finals, kept its perfect record intact by beating Wayne Memorial 60-52 in a Class A Semifinal. Amelia McNutt led all scorers with 20 points and 4 steals, Aaliyah Nye had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Aazhenii Nye had 11 points and 6 boards, and Miss Basketball Jaida Hampton had 7 points and 9 rebounds. The 26-0 Trojans will face Saginaw Heritage this afternoon at 12:15pm in the Class A Final after the Hawks flew past Grosse Pointe North 46-28.

- Class B: Jackson Northwest (25-1) vs Detroit Country Day (21-4), 6:15pm
