KINROSS, MI (WTVB) – A long time Bronson reserve police officer and his wife were killed in a traffic accident this week in the eastern Upper Peninsula.
69-year-old Donald Cook and his 69-year-old wife Janet were pronounced dead at the scene of a four-vehicle crash late Wednesday morning in Chippewa County.
The web site www.upnorthlive.com reports that according to Michigan State Police in Sault Ste. Marie, the Cook vehicle was traveling south when it crashed into a commercial vehicle pulling a snowmobile trailer traveling north on Mackinac Trail.
Investigators say both vehicles came to a stop on the shoulder of the road before two additional vehicles were unable to stop and collided with each other in the roadway near the original crash site.
The driver of the commercial vehicle suffered minor injuries. The other two drivers were not injured.
The Bronson Police Department Facebook page said Cook faithfully and tirelessly served with the Police Department and citizens of the Bronson Community for over 20 years. After retiring, the Cooks moved back to the Upper Peninsula where they resided in Kincheloe.
Funeral services for Don and Janet Cook are set for next Tuesday February 6, 2018 at Fundamental Baptist Church in Kinross, Michigan. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 12 noon.
