THREE RIVERS, MI (WTVB) – Officials in the Three Rivers School District have informed parents in a letter that a suspected but unconfirmed case of mumps has been reported at Park Elementary School.
Interim Superintendent Rob Kuhlman says they are working closely with the health department in response with the situation.
Mumps is a viral illness. The symptoms usually last for a week to 10 days. They include fever, headache and fatigue along with swelling and tenderness of glands under the ears and jaws.
Kuhlman says anyone exhibiting symptoms of mumps should be evaluated by their health care provider.
Vaccines for mumps, measles and rubella are required for entry into both childcare and school settings in Michigan.
