UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Village Council Monday night approved a proposed schedule for work that will take place this fall on the Riley Dam.
The draw down of water for the lake will begin September 4, 2018 and will last about two weeks. According to a post on the village’s Facebook page, the lake could be drawn down up to seven feet.
The dates have also been approved by the Michigan DEQ.
The project is expected to take 10 weeks. If everything goes well, the work will hopefully be done by Thanksgiving.
Village Manager Chris Mathis says the lake was drained in a same manner back in 2000 for a similar project.
The village plans to make more announcements as soon as they get updates on the project.
Union City has been powered by the Riley Dam since 1922.
