ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Two persons escaped with minor injuries on Friday afternoon when they jumped from the roof of a burning home on US 20 west of Angola near the Tri State Steuben County Airport.
The Angola Fire Department says the blaze was reported at about 4:50 p.m.
Several passing motorists assisted the two home occupants by catching them after they jumped off the roof.
The first units on the scene found heavy fire showing from the second floor. A video by a passing motorist that has gone viral showed the structure at one point was fully engulfed in flames.
It took firefighters nearly an hour to get the wind driven flames under control as the intense heat drove them back and they were forced to put out the fire from the outside.
Eight fire departments from around northeast Indiana assisted Angola firefighters.
Crews remained on the scene until almost 8:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
