JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Consumers Energy says it’s dealing with a moving target, trying to restore power to the tens of thousands of people in Michigan who remain in the dark and some won’t get their power back until Monday.
They say with the weather conditions continuing to deteriorate, it’s difficult to predict when they will get to individual outages.
Consumers Spokesman Terry Dedoes says outages had been concentrated in the Grand Rapids region until last night, when this latest wave came through, and scattered outages began appearing in other areas.
He says they have crews working 16-hour shifts around the clock.
As of 6:00 a.m. Friday morning, there were over 155,000 customers without power and the numbers have been climbing.
That includes over 1,600 customers in Calhoun County along with 249 customers in Branch County and 521 in Hillsdale County.
Most customers should be back on the grid by late Sunday but some may not be restored by Monday. But officials admit that unless the weather improves, those predictions may be optimistic.
