COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School girls gymnastics team hosted Quincy Thursday night for the first ever gymnastics battle of the birds. Coldwater won the meet with a team Regional score of 122.775. Quincy posted 62.25 total points while the Coldwater B team tallied 97.775.
The meet was originally supposed to include the Escanaba High School gymnastics team, however, inclement weather conditions prevented the Eskymos from making the trip down state.
Leah Goodwin won the vault with a score of 8.7. Abby Travelbee won the uneven bars as she debuted a new dismount and the risk paid off for the sophomore. She scored 8.575 points.
Layla Schoch finished first in balance beam as she earned 8.375 points. She also won floor exercise with a score of 9.075. Schoch won the All-Around competition with her score of 34.225. It was a personal best for the freshman.
Coldwater will host eleven schools on Saturday for their 9th annual Stick It For a Cure Cardinal Invitational. The gymnasts and parents have been busy collecting donations and creating baskets for the event which has raised nearly $70,000 to date. The Lady Cards donate all of their proceeds to the local cancer center for the benefit of their patients and staff.
The competition will kick off at 9:30 a.m. and continue through the afternoon. The silent auction will run from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..
