COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Given the restrictions in Michigan because of the COVID-19 pandemic and what they can accomplish at this time, the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency was forced to lay off seven staff members two weeks ago.
Health Officer Rebecca Burns told the C.H.A. Board of Health Thursday three Hearing and Vision Technicians were laid off due to schools being closed for the rest of the academic year.
In addition, four sanitarians from the Environmental Health division were initially laid off since that division does not have the ability right now to conduct restaurant inspections and there was not enough work to keep staff busy in their programs.
But two have been called back because Environmental Health activities are increasing with the good weather.
Burns also said they have implemented two teams in agency offices and have been alternating days in the office with a seven day work week.
She says it still provides everyone with two days off in a seven day period. It also allows the agency to operate with two independent teams and maintain social distancing.
