ALLEN TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office is looking into what they are describing as a “suspicious situation” concerning an Allen Township railroad crossing.
The incident happened on the Indiana Northeastern Railroad crossing on M-49 and Allen Road north of U.S. 12. when the traffic control system shorted out.
A railroad spokesman says a train had to slow down and stop on Monday after someone left a jumper across the track.
He said repairs have been made to the control system and the crossing is now working fine.
Hillsdale County Sheriff Tim Parker is asking everyone to use extra caution while crossing railroad crossings, especially those crossings that are blocked by trees and/or buildings where your line of sight is minimal.
Parker says they are thankful no one was injured by this act. If you have any information about what happened, call the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office at (517) 437-7317.
