GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two West Michigan hospitals say more people are in treatment for COVID-19 than ever before. Chief medical officer Dr. Joshua Kooistra at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids says their staff is stretched thin, having treated 1,100 people as of Wednesday.
Officials say 85% of those hospitalized for COVID-19 have not been vaccinated, and Kooistra says the number of people dying from the virus in their 30s and 40s is going up.
Another Grand Rapids hospital is seeing record numbers too. Helen Devos Children’s Hospital says more kids are being treated there for COVID-19 than at any other time during the pandemic.
