COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker told the City Council on Monday night they have received notification they are an eligible entity under the national Opioid Settlement.
The State of Michigan was a participant in a class action lawsuit and Baker says the city is eligible to get some of the settlement funding.
If the city gets money from the lawsuit, one of the items it would be used for is Narcan.
City Attorney Megan Angell pointed out it’s not certain that the settlement will go through.
It’s not known how much money would come Coldwater’s way.
Branch County Commissioners decided in 2018 to join other Michigan cities and counties in an lawsuit against 21 drug companies, distributors and pharmacies in an attempt to get back expenses from the national opioid crisis.
A $4-and-a-half-billion settlement was reached last summer with Purdue Pharma concerning their alleged role in the opioid crisis.
