BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It’s a varsity basketball doubleheader tonight as the Coldwater teams make the long trip to Hastings to battle the Saxons. The Coldwater girls are 1-1 while the boys will be looking for their second win of the young season. The girls game starts at 6:00 p.m. followed the boys game at about 7:30 p.m.. Coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB starts at 5:30 p.m.

In varsity boys basketball on Thursday night, the Union City Chargers opened Big 8 Conference place with a 62-45 victory over Springport. The Chargers improved to 2-1 as Terrence Morgan Junior scored a game-high 22 points. Kyle Johnson added 18 points.
Bronson dropped their conference opener at Concord 38-35 as the Vikings record dropped to 1-2. Reagan Mayer led the Vikings with 12 points while Aden Hathaway had 10 points.
Tekonsha lost to Pittsford 67-38.
Quincy’s junior varsity and varsity games at Reading were postponed until January 22.
In underclassmen boys basketball, the Coldwater J.V. team defeated Hastings 53-27. Niko Downs led all scorers with 13 points while Tyson Roby had 11 points and Eddie Pool and Aiden Dirschell both had 10 points. The Coldwater Freshman lost to Hastings 52-48. Kendall Austin led Coldwater with 15 points. Landon Auble and Drew Ennis added 12 points each.
Hastings swept the underclassmen girls games by scores of 48-12 in the J.V. game and 39-12 in the freshman contest.
