COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County Sheriff’s Department sergeant has been honored for his efforts to save the life of a baby last August.
Sgt. John Crews was honored with the Lifesaving Award during the Sheriff Reserves monthly meeting last Wednesday.
Crews and Deputy Dalton Turmell were on duty at the Branch County Fair August 9, 2021 when they got a call about a baby choking in the area of the Fair Office.
When he arrived, Crews immediately saw fluid coming from the baby’s mouth and that the infant was starting to turn blue.
Crews took the baby and turned it over on its back. He began applying thrusts and almost immediately, the baby started to breath again.
His quick thinking and actions were credited by Sheriff John Pollack with saving the baby’s life.
Crews said he didn’t do anything special or anything more than what any of the other reserve officers would have done.
