QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports Thursday, Quincy’s softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Stockbridge 8-7 and 4-2. In the nine-inning opener, Hannah Economou was the winning pitcher with a 2-hitter and 13 strikeouts and helped her own cause with 3 hits including a double. Jayden Haller also had 3 hits.
In the nightcap, Kaylin Oliver earned the victory on a 4-hitter with 7 strikeouts. Oliver and Haller both had a pair of hits and Economou had two home runs.
In the baseball doubleheader at Stockbridge, it was a sweep for Quincy as the Orioles beat the Panthers 8-0 and 6-2. Yesterday’s Branch County baseball matchup with Union City at Bronson was postponed and rescheduled for May 8th.
Yesterday in Boys golf, Coldwater was a winner over Fremont, Indiana at the Lake James Golf Club. The Cardinals posted a 40-stroke victory, defeating the Eagles 173-to-213. Coldwater was led by Cam Ruge with a 41, Nathan Waterbury shot a 43, Nick Galliers had a 44, Jacob Fair carded a 45 and Tanner Bowers rounded out the scoring with a 49. In the Junior Varsity play, Brendan Hanna led the Cardinals with a 49.
In girls tennis Thursday afternoon, Coldwater was a winner at home 8-0 over Jackson Northwest. The Lady Cardinals picked up 2 points by forfeit while earning victories were Emma Grife, Karissa Harrell, and Samantha Youse at first, third, and fourth singles along with Allie Vanstone and Gabriel Boston at 1st doubles, Aubrey Hodson and Alyssa Bowen at 2nd doubles, and Allison Eastmead and Kayle Riley at 3rd doubles.
Today in high school sports, in baseball and softball, it’s Coldwater at Parma Western. In baseball only, it’s Bronson at Fremont while in softball only, Bronson is at home against Clinton. In track, Coldwater is at the Edwardsburg Eddies Invitational and Union City hosts its annual invitational meet including Quincy and Bronson. In boys golf, Coldwater is at the Marshall Sportsfest. And in girls tennis, Coldwater hosts Pennfield.

Yesterday in middle school sports, in track, it was the Union City Invitational with 16 teams including Coldwater and Quincy. In the Boys meet, Union City was seventh, Quincy 11th, and Coldwater 12th while for the Girls, Quincy was third, Coldwater fourth, and Union City 6th. Coldwater’s Molly Smith was a double winner in the 55 meter hurdles and the pole vault.
