COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Commissioner Rod Olney last night urged members of the County Township Supervisors Association to attend the Departmentof Natural Resources open house meeting a week from tonight where the state agency is looking for input on a draft plan for development of the Coldwater Lake State Park. Olney said if the supervisors had any interest in having a say on what happens with the proposed park plan, they need to show up because, in Olney’s words, it almost sounds like it’s a done deal.
There remain many funding questions about the enhancing the park opportunities and for examples, he pointed to who would pay for policing the park, to supplement the DNR officers and what about maintaining the roads in the park area with the expected increased traffic. The undeveloped 400 acre state park with more than a mile of frontage on the south shore of Coldwater Lake in southern Branch County was purchased by the DNR in 1988 and currently is used primarily for hunting.
The DNR meeting next Tuesday is scheduled for 6-8 pm at the Dr. Robert W. Browne Recreation Center located at Heritage Park in Coldwater.
