QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In Branch County high school sports over the weekend, in wrestling, Coldwater took first place Saturday at Quincy in the annual Shawn Cockrell Memorial Invitational. There were 17 teams in the tournament with the Cardinals taking the top spot with 170.5 points. Homer was second with 156 points. Union City was 13th and Quincy 16th. Leading Coldwater with the Cardinal’s lone first place medal was Nooh Aljabaly at 140 pounds. Josh Powers had a runner-up finish at 119 pounds. Coldwater’s next match is a quad Wednesday at Marshall.
Also on Saturday, Bronson took fifth place out of 8 teams at the Goshen Invitational. David Erwin and Mykal Kline each won their weight divisions. Wes Disbro and Chase Gibson brought home second place medals while placing third were Landon Gould and Nathan Caudill.
In a junior varsity tournament at Coldwater, Bronson had a pair of first place winners with Cody Schwartz and Cole Houtz.
In middle school wrestling, Coldwater finished 7th out of 22 teams in Battle Creek at the Lakeview Spartan Invitational. Champions in their weight classes for the Cardinals were Zeke Nowicki and Dillon Minton while second place medal winners included Noah Anzaldua and Harwan Alaatre.
Tonight in high school sports, in girls basketball, it’s Quincy at Bronson, Union City at Centreville, and Tekonsha hosts Pittsford.
