BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The next State Senator from the newly drawn 17th District will be from Branch County.
Bronson native Jonathan Lindsey won the Republican Primary on Tuesday as he trounced incumbent State Senator Kim LaSata by over 8,000 votes.
Lindsey had the backing of former President Donald Trump as he collected 61 percent of the vote compared to 39 percent for LaSata who was seeking a second term in the State Senate.
The final numbers showed Lindsey with 21,714 votes. LaSata had 13,628 votes.
Lindsey easily carried Branch County with 4,703 votes while LaSata had 1,566 votes.
Lindsey will be opposed by Democrat Scott Rex Starr of Coldwater in the November general election.
Meanwhile, State Representative Andrew Fink and Congressman Tim Walberg both survived Republican Primary challenges on Tuesday.
Fink collected 57 percent of the vote as he defeated Steve Meckley 8,215 to 6,194. Fink will face Democrat Andrew Watkins for the 35th State House district seat in November.
Walberg had 67 percent as he defeated challenger Sherry O’Donnell 67,036 to 32,713. Walberg’s opponent in November will be Democrat Bart Goldberg.
