COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – South Monroe Street between U.S. 12 and West Pearl in downtown Coldwater reopened to vehicle traffic on Friday.
It had to be shut down last Sunday afternoon after pieces of the old Merriman Dental Office building at 25 West Chicago fell to the street.
It was thought bird droppings led to pieces of the brick and ornamental overhang falling off the building which was constructed in 1872.
Luckily no one was hit and there were no injuries. The rest of the building’s overhang was removed to assess the damage.
Hops on Monroe had to moved further south on South Monroe on Thursday evening to avoid the area.
Before traffic was re-opened, Coldwater B.P.U. crews reinstalled the decorative lights and adjusted the angle on their camera.
In addition, a lift was brought in to continue work on the Caywood Propane building.

Why are we calling this the “Merriman Building” . While Merriman was once the owner she was not the origanal one and isn’t the current owners. Any reason the current owners names aren’t being used? Asking for a friend.
