COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Demolition work has officially commenced at the former Rite Aid building in Coldwater that will clear the way for Branch County’s highly anticipated first Chick-fil-A restaurant.
Located at the southwest corner of U.S. 12 and Michigan Avenue, the prominent commercial site has sat vacant since 2022.
According to City Manager Keith Baker heavy machinery and crews have begun tearing down the old pharmacy structure to clear the lot for a modern, 4,472-square-foot facility designed to feature a high-capacity drive-thru, 72 indoor seats, and 16 outdoor patio seats.
While initial project guidelines targeted a late 2026 debut, local officials recently confirmed that procedural delays have adjusted the restaurant’s grand opening timeline to late spring or early summer 2027.
According to Coldwater Planning Director Robert Hawley, recent logistical breakthroughs have successfully advanced the site into its active structural clearing phase.
Once the new fast-food hub completes construction, the establishment is expected to bring a substantial economic boost to the area.
