COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team fell short in its bid for a second straight Interstate 8 Conference championship, falling at home to Parma Western 3-0 Tuesday night.
After the game remained scoreless for much of the first half, Western got on the scoreboard first with 13:13 to play on a breakaway goal. The Panthers scored again on a long range shot with 1:55 to play to take a 2-0 halftime lead.
Their final goal came with 29:12 to play in the game. The Cardinals couldn’t find a way to get on the scoreboard, despite outshooting Parma Western 13-11.
Franky Ramos made five saves in goal.
Coldwater finishes the Interstate 8 Conference portion of their season at 5-1-1, and are now 8-6-3 overall. They will finish the regular season at Mattawan Saturday, before opening District play at home against Vicksburg October 14.
Parma Western improved their conference record to 6-0, clinching the Interstate 8 title with one game remaining. They are ranked number eight in the latest Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division Two Poll.
The Coldwater junior varsity team beat Parma Western 8-0 in a game that ended early on the mercy rule. Liam Clark and Mohsen Ahmed each had two goals, with one each for Niko Downs, Samuel Pernia, Hassan Hajaji, and Rashed Ahmed.
Hunter Barnett and Umari Umari split time in goal for the shutout.
The JV team will close out their season at Mattawan Saturday.
