COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater improved to 27-5 overall with a doubleheader sweep of Sturgis. Darlene Horn was the winning pitcher while Kendall Galloway homered and tripled in the first game as Coldwater defeated Sturgis 14-4. Horn helped her own cause with four hits.
Tyler Scheid was the winning pitcher in the second game. Drue Mullin, Payton Watson and Katie Stanton all had two hits while Galloway and Izzy Foley doubled.
The Coldwater J.V. girls softball team split their doubleheader with Sturgis as they lost the opener 22-18 but won the nightcap 19-5. Emma Stanley drove in three runs in the first game while Carly Duke tripled. Cheyenne Akers was the winning pitcher in the second game. Jay Snyder had three hits and four RBI’s for Coldwater as they are now 24-8.

Adyson Lasky and Allie Sikorski were the winning pitchers. Kiera Lasky and Adyson Lasky both had four RBI’s in the opener. Kelsey Robinson, Kiera Lasky and Kaitlyn Czajkowski all had three hits for the Vikings. Robinson also had three hits in the nightcap as Bronson improved to 18-11. Bronson Coach Becky Grey said, “It was nice to get everyone into the game and see them contribute. We had some girls start to attack the ball at the plate and that was good to see. I hope we can keep this going into tomorrow as we have a couple of big league games.”

Marshall 2, Coldwater 0
The Coldwater girls varsity soccer team Monday night fell at league co-champion Marshall 2-0 in the opening round of the Interstate 8 Gold Division conference tournament. Both of Marshall’s goals came in the first half, with Coldwater dominating possession in the 2nd half, outshooting the Redhawks 7-3, but not able to find the back of the net. Nadia Kiersey made 5 saves in goal as Coldwater falls to 7-5-5 overall and 3-3-2 in the Interstate 8. They will play at Parma Western Wednesday in the Gold Division third place game. The Coldwater JV team fell at Marshall 7-0, as their record slips to 7-8-2.
Jackson Christian 4, Quincy 3
Jackson Christian snapped a 2-2 halftime tie with a pair of second half goals and they hung on to defeat Quincy 4-3. Cailyn Cook, Julia Hildebrand and Emily Hagaman scored for Quincy. Hannah Kaser had an assist. Jackson Christian out shot Quincy 19-10 on the night. Haley Askew had 12 saves in goal for Quincy but the injury bug hit the Orioles again, as Askew ended the game with an injured tendon and small fracture in her finger. Quincy Coach Tim Hart said “overall players are stepping up into positions they may not have played before and doing a great job. Tonight we just came up short”. Quincy is now 7-7-2 on the season and 3-5-2 in the ISL Conference. Quincy’s next game is at home Thursday night at 5:30pm versus Blissfield in the cross-over game with the East Division of the ISL.
—BOYS GOLF—
In the last Jamboree of the season Coldwater’s JV boys golf team traveled to the Cedar Farms golf course which has 12 par 3’s and 6 par 4’s. Coldwater finished third behind Gull Lake and Portage Northern. Gull Lake shot a 292, Portage Northern had a 296, Coldwater at 301, Lakeview at 306, Harper Creek had a 312, Pennfield had a 359 and Sturgis rounded out the scoring with a 362. Coldwater was led by Jacob Fair who was medalist for the round with a 69, Collin Warner had a 75, Tanner Bowers shot a 78, and Kyle Herman, Brendan Hanna, and Tristan Stukey each had 79’s to round out Coldwater’s scoring.
