QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – After a 3-3 tie vote last month, the Quincy Village Council approved a bid on Tuesday night from Brock Badders Property LLC to purchase the Ridge Road property where the former Village transfer station was located at.
It was the only bid submitted last month and did not meet the minimum bid requirement. The amount of the purchase price is not known since a closing on the property still has to take place.
Questions and concerns raised by Council members last month were apparently addressed since then.
Village Manager Brittany Butler explained during a Council workshop two weeks ago since it was a tie vote, it technically was not declined. After doing research on questions that arose on what it would take to clean the land and allow it to be uncapped, Butler found out the cost would be millions of dollars depending on how many of the acres are
contaminated. Also discussed two weeks ago were other options for the land.
Republic Waste Services used to operate the Quincy transfer station before it closed on September 3. Republic began operating a transfer station on Treat Road just off of Garfield in Coldwater on September 5.
The Village Council approved a request from Butler in June to close the 37 acre transfer station because it has only generated about $3,000 in revenue for the village over the last couple of years. She said at the time it was not enough money to cover their costs.
