COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility has presented a long term financial sustainability plan to Branch County Administrator Bud Norman and the Board of Commissioners.
A resolution passed by Commissioners in April asked for the plan as part of a $250,000 advance the county gave the facility in order to help Maple Lawn get through some tight financial times this spring.
Maple Lawn Administrator Jayne Sabaitis told Commissioners during their work session on Thursday they have had increases in the number of residents and staff members.
She said they have taken some cost cutting measures when it comes to training staff.
Maple Lawn is awaiting an anticipated $3.6 million Employee Retention Credit from the federal government which was part of the COVID-19 relief package.
A cut in residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic is seen as the main reason Maple Lawn got into this financial position.
Maple Lawn will pay back the last of a Medicaid Interim Payment adjustment to the State of Michigan this month which has totaled $874,000. Normal payments are expected to resume July 1.
Sabaitis told commissioners during their April 6 work session that the $250,000 advance should be the only cash needed from the county.
Commissioners voted last August to advance Maple Lawn up to $1 million in $250,000 increments.
