LANSING, MI (WTVB) – State Representative Andrew Fink has his sights set on the Michigan Supreme Court and is giving up his State House seat after his current term expires.
He announced on Monday his candidacy for Michigan Supreme Court Justice. He is the first candidate to announce he is running for Supreme Court in 2024.
Fink was elected to the State House in November of 2020 and was re-elected to a second term in 2022 after being challenged in the Republican Primary by Steve Meckley.
Fink graduated from Hillsdale College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in 2010.
Before taking office, Fink served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps from 2009 to 2016.
In a news release that announced his candidacy, Fink described his approach as originalist, believing that judges should interpret laws as written and avoid inserting their personal agendas into a case. “Our courts play a pivotal role in preserving public safety. As a justice, one of my priorities will be to restore faith in government institutions by emphasizing transparency, accountability, and integrity in our state’s court system,” said Fink.
He added, “Our courts should never be partisan. The importance of the delivery of consistent decisions by the higher court that can be applied by the lower courts is of ultimate concern. This will be a shift for me; out of the partisan-political world into a non-partisan role, but I am ready to make a difference” he continued. “I’m excited to bring my life experience to the bench. I’m passionate about the fair administration of justice and an efficient court system.”
