COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Due to the installation of a decorative arch, South Monroe Street from U.S. 12 to West Pearl Street will be closed throughout the day on Wednesday.
The arch will serve as an entrance feature to the block. It’s estimated the portion of South Monroe that had to be shut down will be reopened by Thursday.
While the work is being performed, citizens are asked to proceed cautiously through the detour area and to utilize parking along U.S. 12, in Tibbits Plaza or in Chandler Plaza.
The cost of the arch is over $52,000. Funding for the project is being drawn from General Fund reserves and added to the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget.
City Manager Keith Baker told the City Council in June that the project has been discussed for about a year in light of all of the events that have taken place in recent years.
Case Welding & Fabrication have constructed the arch.
The poles and arch are made up of galvanized steel with special high gloss black paint. The sign is double sided with a post installed on both the east and west sides of the street within the City right of way.

I think it is time for a tax rebate and reduction in Coldwater.
