BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget reported on Thursday that Branch County’s unemployment rate dropped in September to 3-point-8 percent after being at 4-point-2 percent in August.
The data showed that not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates went down in all of Michigan’s 17 labor market areas last month.
Wayne Rourke from the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics said, “Michigan regional labor markets displayed typical seasonal jobless rate declines. Total non-farm employment advanced in most regions over the month.”
The report went on to say 78 Michigan counties exhibited jobless rate declines between August and September while 54 counties displayed rate decreases over the past year.
Regional workforce levels fell in 15 Michigan regions over the month while all regions exhibited labor force increases over the year.
Branch County’s unemployment rate was ranked 16th in the state.
Unemployment rates went down in neighboring counties. The jobless rate in St. Joseph County dropped to 4-point-2 percent while it was down to 4-point-3 percent in Hillsdale County and 4-point-4 percent in Calhoun County.
Michigan’s unemployment rate in September was at 3-point-9 percent.
Unemployment rates around Michigan in August ranged from 2-point-9 percent in Livingston County to 6-point-3 percent in Oscoda County.
