COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One lane of I-69 in Branch County north of Coldwater was shut down for an hour Wednesday night following a rollover crash in Girard Township. Michigan State Police say the accident happened near the Jonesville Road exit when a southbound SUV rear ended a pickup truck hauling a trailer.
Troopers said the 62-year old driver of a Ford Escape from Eagle, Michigan, told them he looked down for a moment right before he struck the back of the trailer. The car spun out of control and flipped over but the driver wasn’t hurt and neither was the 21-year old driver of the 2005 Chevy Silverado, who is from Huntington, Indiana. Both men were out of their vehicles when the State Police arrived.
The Coldwater Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance were notified by Central Dispatch but cleared the scene 30 minutes after the accident occurred around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday.
The man from Clinton County who was at fault in the crash was cited for careless driving.
