PORTAGE, MI (WTVB) – A historic season for the Coldwater High School boys soccer team came to a close Wednesday night, as the 7th ranked Cardinals fell to 8th ranked Holland 3-0 in the MHSAA Division 2 state semi finals at Portage Northern High School..
The Cardinals, who never trailed in a game this postseason, gave up the first goal of the night with 23 minutes to play in the first half. Holland then doubled their score with 30 minutes to play in the second half, and added the final goal with 17 minutes to play.
Balal Nasser, who came into the game with 4 shutouts in the postseason and 16 for the year, made 12 saves in goal, as Holland outshot Coldwater 15-7.
The Cardinals finish the year at 22-4-1, their best record in school history, while also capturing district and regional titles for the first time ever.
Holland will face unranked East Lansing in the Division 2 title game Saturday at noon at Comstock Park. East Lansing eliminated Farmington Hills Harrison 2-0 in the other semi final.
