COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater B.P.U. Board of Directors approved a Distracted Driving Policy for city employees on Wednesday night.
The policy states that all city employees must refrain from using cellphones and other electronic devices, or participating in any activity that may distract them from safely operating a City owned vehicle.
Employees are also not permitted to read or respond to emails or text messages while operating a City-owned vehicle on company business
and/or company time.
They are also not permitted to use the internet while driving a City-owned vehicle while it’s in motion or in stopped traffic for any personal or company business.
The policy applies to the use of all other electronic devices.
Though federal, state and local laws may permit hands-free talking on cellphones, the City has recommended to employees that they limit their talk time for all conversations, and only accept calls that require immediate attention.
