DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Union City’s Montana Connell captured the Division Four state championship at 150 pounds on Saturday afternoon at Ford Field as he defeated Branch County rival Gabe Erwin of Bronson 6-2.

Connell took a 2-0 lead after the first period on a takedown. After Erwin reversed to tie the match 2-2, Connell scored an escape to take a 3-2 lead heading into the final period.
Connell secured the title with an escape and takedown in the final period.
Also making the finals from Branch County were Union City’s Logan Mears and Bronson’s Layne Knisely.
Mears was pinned in the 132 pound finals by Martin’s Haylen Buell in 2:24.
Knisely gave undefeated Gavin Schoff of Niles Brandywine a tough battle in the 157 pound final. Schoff’s escape in the second period was the only point of the match as he defeated Knisely 1-0.
There were a total of 10 Branch County wrestlers who went to the podium. Besides the finalists, the others were:

Alex Boyer, 4th at 132
Landyn Crance, 3rd at 138
