Stanley Allan Smith, 82, of Severn, Maryland, formerly of Union City, Michigan passed away January 9, 2024.
In keeping with Stanley’s wishes, he has been cremated. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation Service, 1276 Tate Trail, Michigan 49094. Union City, with Pastor Rob Hughes and American Legion Post # 196 officiating.
A military committal service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan, also Monday, April 15.
Stanley was the third child of Otto G. and Dorothy M. (Munger) Smith. Stanley was born January 1, 1942, in Evart, Michigan. He graduated from Union City High School with the Class of 1960 and then proudly served in the United States Army until receiving an honorable discharge in 1966. He was stationed in several countries, including Asia and in Europe, as a Procurement Officer and a Radio Operator.
While Stan was in the military, he volunteered for various assignments because he felt that if you don’t volunteer, you don’t see or do anything. After his military service, he was employed by the Department of Defense, NSA, Lockheed Martin, Tower Federal Credit Union and again for the Department of Defense before retiring in 2009.
Stanley is survived by his daughters; Alana Star and Kimberly Marie, his brothers; David L. Smith of Ashville, NC. and Dale E. Smith of La Monte, MO, his sister, Gracanne Smith of Union City, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and his many friends and neighbors. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bruce Smith in 2000, and then by his great-niece and great-nephew.
