COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An update from a representative of Frontier Communications on the county’s broadband initiative did not sit well with Branch County Board of Commissioners Chair Tim Stoll during the Commissioners work session on Thursday.
The Commissioners accepted a county broadband proposal from Frontier in December 2022 and pledged $1 million in ARPA funds towards the $37 million project.
Frontier’s Todd Kruse said on Thursday not all of the county would be covered.
Stoll could not hide his disappointment that the northwest, southwest and northeast parts of the county were not covered.
The Commissioners voted 4-1 in December of 2022 to accept a county broadband proposal from Frontier as part of a public-private partnership.
Branch County was awarded a $22-point-4 million Realizing Opportunity with Broadband Infrastructure Networks (ROBIN) competitive grant from the State of Michigan last June which will be used to fund the project.
The $1 million in ARPA funds committed to the project served as the local match.
