MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan State Police Post in Marshall, which has a service area of Branch, Calhoun, and St. Joseph counties including the Post Detachment in Coldwater, is now part of the pre-arrest diversion Angel Program.
An MSP news release yesterday announced the local participation with almost 200 police departments nationwide in the program. It allows someone with a drug addiction to walk into a State Police post and seek help for their addiction, without the fear of arrest or investigation.
The Marshall post has recently trained Angel Volunteers to provide support and transportation. The Angel Volunteers help post personnel in finding the appropriate treatment, and then drive the person to the assistance location.
Participants must not have active warrants, pending court action or be a registered sex offender. They also have to arrive to the post voluntarily for treatment.
For more information about the program, or if you are interested in becoming an Angel Volunteer, you can call the Michigan State Police Marshall Post at (269)558-0500. MSP plans to continue expansion of the Angel Program across the state throughout 2017.
