COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a resolution last Monday night calling for an MDOT study into the need of audible pedestrian crosswalk signals at 10 intersections along U.S. 12.
The Low Vision Support Group from the Burnside Senior Center requested the study.
The group’s Tammy Huntley told the Council that Michael Perkins from MDOT recently attended a group meeting to listen to their concerns.
She said members of their group went along U.S. 12 between Western Avenue and Fiske Road to identify various features that currently exist.
City Manager Keith Baker says one of the primary concerns raised when considering audible pedestrian signals is the possible impact of the noise on nearby properties and potential increased crossing times.
The resolution stated it is understood MDOT will use engineering data gathered in the study to make a decision which could suggest, all, some, or no audible crosswalk signals.

At this time I think most people would rather see a MDOT study on why US-12 is not being maintained or any other main hwy in southeast Michigan. Fixing the roads is what our governor ran on. But as usual nothing is being done.
