QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Township Board voted 5-0 Tuesday night to not move forward with an ordinance allowing medical marijuana facilities in the township.
The action went against a recommendation made last month by the Quincy Joint Planning Commission. The J.P.C. was serving as an advisory board and they recommended to the township and the Village of Quincy that the ordinance be approved after they got feedback from both sides of the issue.
The Quincy Village Council is scheduled to discuss the medical marijuana issue during their meeting on October 17, 2017.
The Joint Planning Commission, which consists of seven persons from the village and township, has spent the last several months reviewing state statutes that impact medical marijuana operations.
The State of Michigan adopted laws regulating the use of medical marijuana late last year. It came almost eight years after Michigan voters approved a ballot initiative legalizing medical marijuana. The 2008 ballot issue was approved by 57 percent of Quincy Township voters.
