MARSHALL, MI (WTVB)- A Consumers Energy scholarship that was named after a Bronson man who died in 2012 while working for the utility was presented to two line workers during a ceremony at the Consumer’s Training Center in Marshall Thursday.
The scholarship is named after Jeffrey H. Creel, who was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was investigating a downed power line near Jonesville.
His death has resulted in an increased effort by his friends, family, Consumers Energy and other utility companies to educate drivers about roadside worker safety, emphasizing the phrase “slow down and go around.”
The scholarship program was first announced two years ago in conjunction with Lansing Community College, Alpena Community College, the Michigan State Utility Workers Council and Consumers Energy.
The 2017 recipients were Erric Garner of Lansing Community College and Brayden Bell of Alpena Community College.
