Carol Jean Wohlers, 75 of Bronson passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024 at home with her family at her side.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Genesis Outreach Ministries in Coldwater MI with Pastor Paul Pope officiating.
A light luncheon will be held afterwards at the American Legion in Coldwater.
Carol Jean was born July 10, 1949, to Jimmie and Delia Louise (Abbott) Hendon. She married Keith Arlen Wohlers, the love of her life on June 3rd, 1978, in Coldwater, MI after working together with him in the salon as a cosmetologist. Her loving and devoted husband Keith survives.
Carol Jean and Keith enjoyed running their salon in Bronson and Coldwater for many years. The Wohlers salon was a well-known place among the locals, and they were always seeking out various specialties to help their clients. Carol spent many years working as a cosmetologist and esthetician-studying to be the best and making many lasting friendships along the way.
In Carol’s free time, she devotedly gave her heart to the Lord. Carol Jean became a pastor and founded the Genesis Outreach Church in Coldwater with Keith by her side. She found her calling here and spent the vast majority of her life helping others in need- especially children. In the 80’s and 90’s Carol Jean ran a youth program out of the church and maintained a food pantry for the community. Carol gave everything she could to ensure others were cared for and that they all received blessings from the Lord.
Carol loved coffee more than anyone would know. She also had a love for cooking. She enjoyed making cookies/dumplings when the kids or grandkids would come to visit. Although Carol Jean was no chef, she always attempted various spins on dishes for improvement-even adding onions to most everything she made. Traveling up north was a special time for Carol. Random family trips up north were wonderful memories that will always be cherished as a place that made Carol Jean and Keith’s souls the happiest.
Carol Jean loved her family. Both Carol and Keith had their hands full with 5 children, but they whole heartedly took on this journey with love and devotion while raising them. Carol enjoyed watching her children succeed and always made time to support them anyway that she could. This love and support only grew as she was blessed with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren/great-grandchild were the absolute sparkle in her eye and the beat of her heart. She adored and cherished all the time spent with them and they are the legacy that Carol always wanted to leave behind.
In addition to her husband Keith, Carol Jean leaves behind her children Rick Wohlers, Shawn Wohlers, Chad (Amy) Wohlers, Jeff Wohlers, and Jodi (Kevin) Baker; her sister Barbara (Phil) Southworth; her grandchildren Brittany Wohlers-Hetrick; Desiree Wohlers; Roy Wohlers; Eden Baker; Eli Baker; Ryker Wohlers; Rylie Wohlers; and her great granddaughter Layla Hetrick, and all her loving nieces and nephews. Surviving also includes her very special friends Connie Pieronski and Judy Zuck who laughed and cried together with Carol through the years and Inga Whacott who Carol took in as her own child when Inga was a young child in need.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to thank everyone who stood by Carol Jean’s side along her journey of life and who made her life brighter. We hope that Carol was a blessing to you all, as she was to us.
Memorial donations are suggested to the family for funeral expenses.
