COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was arraigned Monday in Branch County District Court on four charges involving his alleged possession of child sexually abusive material on his computer.
43-year-old Christopher Timothy Howell is facing three counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and a count of using a computer to commit a crime.
According to Branch County court documents, the charges were filed following a Coldwater Police Department investigation that began in April after a USB drive was found in Howell’s belongings that contained the suspected material.
A probable cause affidavit says numerous apparent child sexually abusive material images and videos were located on the root folder of the USB drive by the State of Michigan’s Cyber Crimes Unit and that there were about 426 files containing the suspected material on the USB.
Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of the defendant. Howell is free after posting a $25,000 surety bond at the time of his arrest.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for December 5 with a preliminary exam on December 12.
