COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – About 101,000 Consumers Energy customers were without power Friday morning as crews are working 16-hour shifts to repair the damage from Wednesday’s windstorm that featured gusts over 60 miles an hour.
It could be Sunday before everyone is back on line. Falling trees knocked down about 7,000 power lines statewide.
The utility said in a statement Friday morning that the vast majority of customers without electric service should have power restored by midnight Saturday. In some of the hardest areas, including portions of Genesee, Kent and Kalamazoo counties, restoration work will continue into Sunday.
As of 6:00 a.m. Friday morning, there were still 1,251 customers in Branch County without power. Another 2,397 customers were out in Hillsdale County while 7,048 Calhoun County customers and 265 customers in St. Joseph County were also without electricity.
Most of the Branch County outages were still around Coldwater and Quincy. There were 584 customers in Coldwater without power while 362 were still out in Quincy.
The numbers drop in other parts of Branch County. There were 123 outages in Union City, 57 customers were out in Sherwood while 37 customers were without power in Bronson.
