ZEELAND, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater rallied from a 14 point halftime deficit to defeat Zeeland East 72-58 in the consolation game of the Zeeland East Holiday Tournament.
Coldwater trailed 43-29 at halftime but turned the game around with a 26-5 third quarter.
Gage McGuire and Dylan Targgart were named to the all-tournament team. McGuire finished with 22 points, 19 rebounds and two steals. He also moved into second place on the CHS Boys Basketball scoring list with 1,201 career points.
McGuire and Damon Beckhusen were our McDonald’s Co-Players of the Game. Beckhusen held Zeeland East’s leading scorer, Trip Riemersma, scoreless in the third quarter. Dylan Targgart had 21 points, nine rebounds and two assists for Coldwater.
Austin Santure added 12 points and five rebounds while Spencer Rodesiler dished out eight assists.
Coldwater won the junior varsity championship game as they defeated Zeeland East 45-34. Lu Lebron led Coldwater with 11 points while Brock Thornton had 10 points and Deandre Douglas had eight points.
The Coldwater freshman boy’s basketball team won their portion of the Zeeland East Holiday tournament as they defeated Zeeland East 59-52. Gavin Budd and Nate Tappenden both had 20 points to lead Coldwater.
Tekonsha won the Litchfield Holiday Tournament title as they defeated the host school 56-52 in the championship game. Anthony Layne led the Indians with 21 points and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
