READING, MI (WTVB) – A public hearing will take place during the City of Reading’s Planning Commission meeting on January 7, 2019 on an application for a special land use permit concerning a proposed medical marijuana provisioning center in downtown Reading.
According to the public hearing notice, The Happiest Camper LLC has filed the application under the city’s Medical Marijuana Facilities Licensing Ordinances and the applicable zoning ordinances regulating such facilities.
The property is located in the 100 block of South Main, across the street from Reading City Hall. It’s also within the Historic Overlay District, which means exterior improvements are subject to district requirements.
The Hillsdale Daily News reports the city has approved an application for a Class C commercial grow license and a processing license for an applicant who has bought two-and-a-half acres of land in the city’s industrial park. The applicant already has a pre-approved license through the state.
While medical marijuana plans are moving forward in Reading, City Manager Kimberly Blythe told the Daily News no action has been taken by the city on recreational marijuana dispensaries, but it is expected to come up for discussion during the Reading City Council meeting January 8, 2019.
