QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles not only ended a 14 game losing streak on Thursday night, they smashed it to bits as the Orioles dominated an undermanned East Jackson Trojans squad in a 64-6 victory before their hometown fans.
The last time the Orioles visited the winners circle was back on September 15, 2023 when they defeated Springport 26-22.
Quincy had not scored more than 60 points in a game since October 15, 1999 when they defeated Homer 65-12.
The game was tied 6-6 midway through the first quarter before the Orioles scored 58 unanswered points. Quincy led 49-6 at the half. With a Quincy lead of more than 35 points, the game went to the running clock criteria. Once Quincy led by 50 points, the continuous running clock criteria kicked in.
Quincy sophomore running back Noah Kelley had a big night as he rushed the ball 14 times for 130 yards and four touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Isaiah Staggs was 12 of 15 in the air for 163 yards and three TD passes. All of the touchdown passes were caught by Noah Rufenacht who finished with six catches for 56 yards.
Senior Ethan Pearson also scored for the Orioles from 15 yards out.
Quincy had a balanced offensive attack as 190 of their 353 yards of total offense was generated on the ground. The defense also forced four East Jackson turnovers.
The Orioles will travel to Sand Creek next Friday night.
