Betty was born August 13, 1932 in Ft Wayne, IN, to Eural and Lula (Peters) Rose. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1950 and then attended business school.
Betty married the love of her life, Donald D. Kurtz, on September 8, 1953, in Angola, IN. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2007.
Betty worked for Coldwater Pediatrics for 33 years as the office manager. She loved children, especially her grandchildren. She was a captivating reader.
Her grandkids enjoyed the way she animated stories as she read them aloud. On each of their birthdays, she always called to sing to them. She had a profoundly positive impact on three generations of her family—a true blessing to have lived a life with such abundance and longevity.
Betty was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and formerly the Reformation Lutheran Church. She lived a life of service to the Lord and the community, volunteering much of her time to both churches. She also volunteered with Coldwater city elections and at the Burnside Senior Center, where she also served on the board.
Betty enjoyed playing cards and was a tough one to beat! She was creative and crafty, enjoying activities such as jewelry making, painting, and knitting. She loved knitting dishcloths and took delight in the opportunity to gift them to anyone she met. Her pumpkin bread, Christmas tree sugar cookies, and snow salad warmed many hearts. Spending quality time with her family and friends was her greatest joy.
Betty is survived by her children Laura (Greg) Allen of Gladwin, Jeffrey Kurtz of Redmond, WA; her son-in-law, Charles Mills, of Oakland, MD; her sister, Erin Rose Ganter, of Keeseville, NY; her sister-in-law, Linda Rose, of Hamilton, IN; her grandchildren, Kelli (Jake) Angleberger, Jennifer (Tom) Mathers, Corey (Molly) Allen, Christopher (Taryn) Allen, Ryne Kurtz, Rachael (Trenton) Baer; her great-grandchildren, Nathan, Gwen, Kayla, Wyatt, Remy, Koen, Finn, Isla, Billie, Flora, Clark, and Redmond.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Kurtz, her daughter, Lisa Kay Mills (Kurtz), her infant granddaughter, Kristen Rae, her step-mother, Golden Rose, her brother, Wendall Rose, and her sister, Janet Rose.
Memorials may be directed to the Burnside Senior Center or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
